Sun 2nd – Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Fundraiser, Hampton Estate, Seale, from 1pm.

Enjoy an enchanting afternoon of jazz in the beautiful private gardens of the Hampton Estate, Seale, on Sunday 2 June, from 1-5.30pm, to raise funds for hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell. Guests can bring along picnics to enjoy on the lawn, whilst taking in the views of this stunning Repton-designed landscape. From 3-5pm the Barnes Big Band, a 16-piece jazz or-chestra, will play music from jazz legends Quincy Jones, Francy Boland, Sammy Nestico and Lennie Niehaus, as well as original music composed by Eddie Harvey, Kenny Woodman and Steve Darlington. Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, through medical and nursing care, counselling, social work advice and practical support, at a cost of £25,000 a day. Tickets are £50 per person and include a welcome drink, plus a treat of summer berries with ice cream. Tickets can be bought at www.pth.org.uk/jazz-in-the-garden. Phyllis Tuckwell is looking for more volunteers to join its Home Support team. Volunteers are paired with one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s patients, and can visit them at home once a week, for up to three hours. The role includes taking patients shopping or to medical appointments, for walks or drives, or simply sitting and having a chat over a cup of tea. Being seriously ill can cause anxiety and stress, and can be lonely too, and home support volunteers can make an enormous difference to a patient’s life. The charity is also looking for more volunteer retail van drivers and drivers’ mates to help move stock between its shops and warehouses, which are located throughout its catchment area of west Surrey and north-east Hampshire. It’s a strenuous role, with a lot of lifting and carrying involved and drivers must also hold a full driving licence. To find out more, contact Phyllis Tuckwell’s Voluntary Services team on 01252 729400 or email voluntary.services@pth.org.uk. Visit: www.pth.org.uk.
