Sat 15th – Guildford Goes Wild, Friary Street, 10am.

As spring turns into summer, there is no better time to make the most of being outdoors. As detailed on page 2, St Nicholas Church is trialling an hour of forest play each week in the woods at Puck’s Oak Barn and hosts Muddy Church, where activities have included feeding new-born lambs and making hedgehog houses. Why not join the next one on Sunday 4 June to collect and plant seeds from wildflowers in the churchyard. ⸙ Join Surrey Wildlife Trust and Zero Carbon Guildford for a day of FREE nature-themed activities and talks on everything, from eco-friendly gardening to campaigning for wildlife. Date: Saturday 15 July, 10am to 4pm, 14 & 16 Friary St, Guildford, GU1 4EH and North Street Rotunda. www.surreywildlifetrust.org/whatson/guildford-goes-wild-2023.

St Nicholas has introduced a churchyard management plan to conserve the unique environment; a tiny, but rare, survival of ancient, uncultivated grassland. ⸙ During June, listeners to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme were invited to leave voice notes about their favourite tree. If you have a BBC Sounds account, you can listen to some at www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0fyd1fv and feel inspired to plant one.
