St Nicholas Church - June and July

Please note there will be no Muddy Church or Fledglings during August (summer holidays).

At the Annual Church Meeting the Parochial Church Council (PCC) said a very big thank you to Ros Lawson, who steps down after six years as a Churchwarden. We are so very grateful to Ros for everything she has done during this period. Her dedication, her wisdom, her guidance and her kindness have been greatly appreciated. Ros’s services as a Churchwarden stretch far beyond the last six years. She has been warden for 18 out of the last 25 years. She bid farewell to John Fellows in 2012 and cleared out the old Rectory as it was deemed not viable as a clergy house. The Churchwardens kept it safe until Handpost Cottage next door was purchased for the incoming Rector, Caroline Burnett. A new Rectory was built on the garden of the old one and after Caroline left, there were challenging times when St Nicholas Compton split from the United Benefice of Shackleford and Peperharow with Compton. Ros was Churchwarden again when Julian Hubbard stepped in and saw St Nicholas through the three national lockdowns. Sally Buddle was then appointed at the end of 2022. Ros’s co-Churchwarden, Mike Winterbotham now carries on single-handed.

St Nicholas Church has spaces in its choir stalls and welcomes any adults who are interested in church singing to try the choir out. It sings on most Sunday mornings and once a month in the evening (preceded by the monthly choir practice). There are extra services at Christmas and Easter and occasional weddings and funerals. The current choir members can all read music (to some extent!). Anyone who joins does not necessarily need to commit to singing every week. For further details, contact Steven Salmon, the organist, at stnicholascompton.organist@gmail.com.
