Compton Village Club

Compton Club Chairman's update. The club is doing well! Our financial year ended at the end of September. While the accounts are still being finalised, we're in a healthy financial position. To hear about our financial performance and other club matters, please join us at the AGM on Friday 5 December at 7.30pm. Please mark your calendars and come to show your support. Club improvements and future plans. We've recently repainted all the window frames and we're using this year's fete donation to renovate the outdoor space at the back of the club, which should be looking much tidier soon. One of our long-term goals is to install solar panels on the club's roof to become more sustainable and to reduce operating costs. This will free up more funds to improve the club's interior in the future. Call for Volunteers. A huge thank you to all our volunteers and committee members. Without your dedication, the club wouldn't be in such a strong and sustainable position. Volunteers are vital to the club's success. If you can spare a few hours a month, please consider helping us out by pulling a pint or two for your fellow members.

Upcoming Events. As a reminder, the club is open every Thursday & Friday from 7pm. Here are some key dates for your diary:

Saturday 18 October Quiz Night — Saturday 1 November Halloween Party — Saturday 15 November Band Night with The Firebottles — Friday 5 December AGM — Saturday 6 December Christmas Party — Wednesday 31 December New Year's Eve Party.

The women of HMP Send are serving prisoners who take part in weekly art workshops. Inspired by the Women of Our Time dinner service designed in the 1930s by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, the new version imagines a range of contemporary guests that Mary Watts might invite to a dinner party. These imagined guests are shown by the artists through decorated ceramic plates at a table setting in Limnerslease.

Arts Society Woking

On Tuesday 14 October, ARTS SOCIETY WOKING’s talk is After Miss Jekyll. English Gardens of the late 20th and early 21st Centuries. The dominance of Jekyll and the enduring popularity of gardens at Hidcote and Sissinghurst have proved to be an enduring legacy. But, subversive undercurrents of alternative styles and influences gained a greater importance and momentum as the new century emerged. Gardens like Portrack, Little Sparta and Througham Court have explored the worlds of literature and science. Meanwhile, the New Perennial movement, originating in Europe, has allied itself to our increasing desire to go organic and the interest in woodland and wild-flower meadows to produce a freer, gentler style of painting. Speaker James Bolton is organiser of The Arts Society's garden study days and tours in UK and Europe. Talks start at 10.30am but doors open 9.45am for tea, coffee & biscuits. Normandy Village Hall, GU3 2DT. Members may bring a visitor, who may want to make a donation to the Society of £10.
