Well, the gods were smiling once again on Fete day in Compton! A heavy, but brief, shower right at the start sent everyone scurrying for shelter and covering their stalls in plastic but after that the sun came out, the crowds descended, and another hugely successful day was enjoyed by hundreds of people. Compton Fete is a fixture in many people’s diaries from year to year, and they come from far and wide. Clearly we have a formula that works – free entry, free parking, free children’s entertainment, free races for children and dogs, and many free attractions on various stalls. For the rest, nothing is very expensive and everything is run by the villagers and their friends, for the benefit of the village. An amazing £10,572 profit was the result – which may be subject to some minor changes.
Here are the details, with last year’s figures in brackets. Figures in bold underlined indicate a record for that particular stall. Several records were broken again this year.
